Recently Russia’s federal Medical and Biological Agency (FMBA) has announced a major advancement in oncology with the development of Enteromix. It is an mRNA based vaccine targeting colorectal cancer. The vaccine is believed to demonstrate a high level of safety even with repeated dosing and strong efficacy in animal models. Inferred from the pre-clinical studies, improved survival rate has been observed due to more than 60% reduction in tumor size.
Though the vaccine was labelled as “Ready to Use” by FMBA head Veronika Skvortsova at the 10th Eastern Economic forum in Vladivostok it was also said that the vaccine still lacked a formal regulatory approval. The vaccine initially designed for colon cancer research is also advancing towards glioblastoma and ocular melanoma applications.
Globally research now focuses on harnessing mRNA technology beyond infectious diseases, underscoring Russia’s growing focus on precision oncology. While regulatory and clinical milestones remain, Enteromix marks a promising step towards next-generation cancer care.
