Novartis Strengthens Cardiovascular Portfolio: Acquires Tourmaline Bio, Strikes $1.4 Billion Deal

Novartis strikes a $1.4 billion deal with Tourmaline Bio, a US based company. The information of this acquisition was released in a recent press release Novartis. With this step the company marked a strategic step to strengthen its cardiovascular portfolio and will continue to grow and serve the therapeutic need of the market.Cardiovascular diseases remain the foremost cause of death globally.
The acquisition will add Pacibekitug, Tourmaline’s lead phase 2 stage, IL-6 monoclonal antibody, to Novartis growing focus on cardiometabolic therapeutics.The drug is potent in nature, meets quality and safety standards and will proceed towards Phase 3 trial shortly. It has shown promising results in reducing hs-CRP, a marker protein of inflammation seen in cardiovascular diseases.
This takeover underscores Novartis’ commitment towards serving next-generation therapies to patients globally. The transaction has been unanimously approved by both companies’ and will be served soon after regulatory clearances.
