41 Chemists Caught in Illegal MTP Kit Sales Under Delhi Governments Initiative to Safeguard Women’s Health

The Delhi Drugs Control Department (DDCD) has launched a stringent enforcement drive against the illegal sale of Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP) Kits across the country’s capital. This was a decisive step to uphold women’s health and ensure compliance with drug safety norms. The inspection was conducted between September 5-7 which covered areas near hospitals and nursing homes. Approximately 157 chemist shops were inspected.

This stringent operation revealed that in violation of the Drugs & Cosmetics Act,1940 drugs like Mifepristone and Misoprostol were sold without valid medical prescriptions. 41 chemists were caught dispensing MTP kits illegally.

Legal action has been initiated against the erring chemists. Because such unsupervised use poses serious health risks including severe bleeding, infections and fertility complications.The DDCD has also urged the public to use MTP medicines strictly under medical supervision to ensure safe and normal reproductive healthcare for women.
