India-UK New Trade Pact: Pharma and Medical Devices Gets Global

The India-UK free trade agreement will boost the growth of the Pharma and medical device industry by improving the supply chain, increasing the accessibility of affordable medicines and improving drug manufacturing as well as research. Indian Pharma companies are expecting to increase the export of generic drugs.

According Sudarshan Jain, secretary general of Indian Pharmaceutical Alliance the deal will open new marketing prospects of cost effective high quality medicines and improve the patient care in the UK. Previously the import of medical devices in the UK was duty free but the cost and duration of approvals for regulatory compliance were concerning now this agreement will be a boon to that says Namit Joshi, chairman of Pharmaexcil. Rajiv Nath from AiMeD had asked the UK to recognize Indian certifications like CDSCO so that the whole process can be sped up. He also said there should be stronger checks to make sure the FTA isn’t exploited by others.
